I grew up in rural mid Wales, and there wasn’t a lot to do; the cinema on a Friday night (and that was half an hour’s drive away), and the pub when you’re almost old enough (we’d willingly walk half an hour along muddy tracks). And then, a couple of youth project lifelines – for some sport, for others music, for me, a vibrant local youth theatre. It’s not just mid Wales – many friends who’ve grown up in sparsely populated areas tell of important schemes that made being a teenager living in a perceived backwater less grindingly dull.
Times are tight now, the axe is falling everywhere. But recent Arts Council cuts come as a particular blow in communities that are already struggling to support their cultural institutions. And while the Arts Council in England opted to share the pain, taking 0.5 per cent off most companies, in Wales 71 organisations will continue to be fully funded, while 32 lose their funding entirely. This will be a devastating blow to many smaller organisations. Of course, it’s easy to nod and mutter “had to be done” – until it affects an area you know well.

Mum – Gorgeous couple in a ueiutafbl setting. Nav and Charlotte had me crying and laughing with them. I especially love the family showering confetti (gran and flower girl) and the sharing of the apple. What a handsome set of grooms! Now this a job I envy, you are all having such a blast!! Beautiful work Britty. xxooo
Save Our Services fully support you in trnyig to protect your youth centre. They shouldn’t be shutting it down, as it is a desperately needed public service for young people. It’s not your fault the economy collapsed, so why should you pay for it?
Hi, I want to say save our Librarians’ jobs not just our Libraries. Their expertise is imtnaprot. Say No to turning it into a voluntary community; why should our labour be free? Do the Banks use volunteers? Does Parliament function on volunteers? No! So keep our Libraries as they are and make the Council find other ways to save money. Libraries bring communities together in many ways. They stop people feeling isolated; children get to experience Books and Art which they can’t always get at home. People go there to read the papers. Those without open spaces can enjoy The Turrill gardens at the back of the Library. Perhaps we could have a coffee shop to help support it. Please see the bigger picture, our Library helps everyone.Best wishes,Kate
