Art8 - The countdown has begun!

The countdown has begun to Newquay’s Art8 Festival!

With just a few days to go before the start of Newquay’s 1st arts and culture festival, things are definitely getting exciting! The Art8 Team would like to invite everyone to come and join in the festivities. There are so many things to come and see, take part in and enjoy. Some of the highlights include the many workshops taking place from clog dancing to glass fusing, street dance to sketch walks.

Pick up your full programme of events from Pot- Tea Training on Fore Street or The Lighthouse Cinema. In the programme you will find a full list of events, workshops, art demos and performances, along with a handy map that has a full list of venues and shows the Art’s trail around the town. The arts trail is a showcase of over 100 artists’ from Newquay and Cornwall displaying their talents, so make sure you pop in to the pop up galleries and delight in local art work.

Other highlights include ‘Through Jackson's Eyes' a film overview of Kurt Jacksons's Art Practice over the last decade followed by a Q & A with Kurt himself on Friday 20th April at the Lighthouse Cinema with the support of Cornwall Film Festival.  All three art prize winners will be displaying their work during the week, make sure you check out Tony Plant’s outdoor installation on the Barrow Fields and Lusty Glaze. Emily Dobson will be performing her piece on the Killacourt on Sunday 15th at 3pm and Tony Hill’s video installation will be displayed at the youth centre on Chester road, alongside Newquay’s young people and their event - Welcome to our world - inside the mind of a Teenager !!! - A week of free creative activities and interactive workshops for teenagers, future teenagers and teenagers past with tea and cake

Liz Wright, Art8 co-ordinator  says

“ There are so many fantastic things happening during the week, it’s really hard to say what the highlight  are. We hope the whole week will be a highlight, and a great addition to Newquay’s calendar. The workshops are already starting to fill up, so we recommend everyone getting booked on as soon as possible. We really hope that both Newquay residents and visitors alike come and enjoy all that is on offer”

The week will be finished off with The Last Blast, taking place on the new Piazza next door to the cinema, Dance groups and choirs from Newquay and the surrounding area will come and perform an run free workshops throughout the day for everyone to enjoy and get involved in.

Before the Festival      30th March – 13th April 10.30 am - 4pm at Pot-tea Training 25a East Street. 

During the festival       14th – 21st April – 12 – 6pm - Lighthouse Cinema - bottom of Crantock Street.
