Community gets their dancing shoes on for the torch relay

Golowie Donsya

Four community groups across the county are putting on their dancing shoes to join in the torch relay celebrations taking places on Saturday 19th May. Golowie Donsya (to shine, to dance) as this part of the celebration is called, will take place around the time torch passes through Marazion, Eden project, Lanivet and Liskeard. The community groups of all ages are currently working hard to create their dances which will be performed to live music provided by local bands and community music groups that have a Cornish and lively flavour. The local dance artists leading the project are Caroline Schanche in Marazion, Sarah Jarvis in Lanivet, Gemma Kempthorne in St Austell and Lois Taylor in Liskeard

Saffy Setohy - Project co-ordinator says “We are really excited that so many local people have the opportunity to get involved in this once in a lifetime event. It’s part of a nationwide celebration of creativity that people can engage with in their local areas. Look out for these free performance events at Marazion beach the Eden Project arena, Lanivet village green, and Westbourne Park Liskeard”.

Come along on Saturday 19th May and enjoy this vibrant community event. Golowie Donsya is supported by Arts Council England, Dance Southwest, RELAYS and The Works Dance and Theatre Cornwall and is part of Big Dance 2012, a national initiative to encourage the whole country to get involved in dance.
