An 8-week series of practical classes providing a framework in which emerging and established actors and performers can practice and develop their vocal technique. Led by Gary Owston

Each class will include a good vocal work out using a variety of texts, some voice theory, elements of speech using the I.P.A.(International Phonetic Alphabet), individual assessments and trouble-shooting. During the sessions we will be working on: bodywork, breathing strategies, phonation, articulation, pitch dynamics and clear textual delivery. Please wear loose fitting clothing and be aware that some exercises will involve lying on the floor.

Gary Owston has been Voice & Speech Teacher and the Dialect Coach at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School for 12 years. He trained at Rose Bruford College and has an Advanced Diploma in Voice Studies from the Central School of Speech and Drama. He has worked in America and the UK as an actor as well as a teacher and has worked with most of the country’s leading drama schools at one point or another.
