DanceSpace at The Island –a base for independent dance and movement artists now open in Bristol, UK with studios space for hire and a range of classes.

Set up in November 2010 DanceSpace Bristol affordable, creative space for dance in Bristol. The project was set up by a core group of independent dance artists with more than 10 years’ experience of working in dance in Bristol, and is a new collaboration with ArtSpace LifeSpace, the highly-respected, artist-led initiative that works in partnership with building owners to secure and re-use interesting, unusual and often difficult spaces as vibrant multi-use art venues.

Based at The Island, in the former Bridewell Police Station, DanceSpace Bristol shares a home with visual artists, musicians, circus performers and others. Its central location makes it easily accessible by public transport, bike and on foot.

DanceSpace Bristol aims to complement existing provision of regular dance classes and activities in the city, such as those offered by Bristol Community Dance Centre, DMAC at Hamilton House, The Tobacco Factory and others, by providing a dedicated space for workshops, research and development, and rehearsal for a wide range of dance, movement and body-based work. Our priority is to maintain an artist-led, affordable, creative space that is inspiring and accessible to local and visiting artists working in contemporary dance and the various forms with which it intersects: such as aerial dance, screendance and physical theatre, as well as popular dance forms such as Tango, Ballet and Flamenco and a host of other body-based disciplines such as Capoeira, martial arts and physical theatre. DanceSpace Bristol  aspires to offer a physical base and meeting point for independent dance artists to gather and share their work and ideas through regular skillshares, workshops, performances, research events and socials.

Classes in various diciplines from beginner to advanced run monday to friday with workshops, events and intensives programmed throughout.
