9 Florence Park“Sleepwalk Collective play in the space between fantasy and reality, tantalising us as to which is which and why that should matter.” – Peader Kirk, MKULTRA
Sleepwalk Collective is an internationally drawn Theatre/Performance group which formed in London in 2006. The company’s work is rooted in a fascination with performance as real event, occurring in concrete space and time, and explores questions of fiction, reality, and what it is to live and to be human. This work draws from contemporary performance art practices and from the classical Avant Garde, but is above all created for the theatre – the theatre as idea, as physical space, and as a set of rules to play by. They like the theatre because of what it lets them get away with; because it lets them lie to strangers, people who’s names they don’t even know; because, sometimes, it lets them tell truths – the truths that they are afraid of; the truths that they are in love with. They like the theatre because in the end there is always hope in it.
To date they have created two full-scale performance pieces (Y LA NOCHE ES UN OCÉANO and SOME MISTAKES & ANTICLIMAXES), an online project (www.laciudaddormida.com) and a number of smaller performance experiments.
Sleepwalk Collective is currently based in Bristol and in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country, Spain. The company is supported by KREA Expresión Contemporánea.
