13 West Street, Old Market, BristolTravelling Light has been creating exciting and inspiring theatre for young people since 1984. Our current show THE UGLY DUCKLING, is a co-production with the Tobacco Factory. Playing at Warwick Arts Centre for Christmas its National Tour ends at the Tobacco Factory 0n 30 & 31 May.
We tour to local schools as well as to theatres and festivals throughout UK. We also take our shows to international festivals eg in Romania and Korea. In 2009 we will celebrate 25 years of making theatre for young people. Central to the company’s core values is the importance of taking enough time to create high quality work through a long period of research & development and trying out new ideas and inspirations. Much of our work is devised: live music is integral to all productions and stories are told in a visual, physical and inventive way.
Some press reviews of the work:
An absolutely charming theatrical adventure Sunday Herald on CLOWN
A real delight… a reminder that drama for the under-5s is one of the most inventive areas in British theatre today The Guardian on CLOUDLAND
Alongside our productions, we work with young people through our education and development projects as well as three thriving youth theatre groups. We run an annual site specific summer school which has taken place in various settings such as Redcliffe caves, Goblin Combe and the Arnolfini gallery in Bristol docks. Through the development of education programmes for our early years shows and involvement in the ground-breaking 5×5×5 Creativity in the Early Years project, we have increasingly become well known and sought after for our expertise in this field.
Although we have been very successful at creating shows for the very young, we are still committed to producing work for a wider age range. Most recently our show for 10 years + entitled LENNY, The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Train, was created in partnership with Theatr Iolo and CTC Theatre.
We have several shows in the pipeline for this year, ALI BABA, a co-production with the Tobacco Factory and HOW COLD MY TOES, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic and Birmingham Rep. We are running several Research & Development weeks for shows in 2010-11; Pobby and Dingan based on the book of the same name & Bob, the Man in the Moon, a co-production with Sixth Sense.
Young Company for 15 - 21 years. The group meet regularly on Wednesdays from 6-8pm at Arnolfini, 16 Narrow Quay, Bristol BS1 4QA.

The play takes you on a magical, playful, fun filled journey through the seasons, from the seed-sprouting vitality of spring all the way to the frosty frozen fingers of winter.
