It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It's about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It's about Ben, it's about Steven and Andy and Mark, it's about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.
1666, the coast of St Lucia. Captain Gordon welcomes us on board his ship, The Marauder, heaving with exotic stolen treasure, his crew of cut-throat pirates, and three bawdy whores plying their trade freely to keep up the men's spirits.
Bristol's finest all-female performing troupe are proud to present an evening of spooky songs, sketches, stories and even swordfights! Get into the Halloween spirit with Hecate Theatre's free "A Halloween Cabaret" – guaranteed to be spine-tingling, rib-tickling, scary, sexy fun!
Not for the faint-hearted… Inspired by Roman writer Ovid’s epic, Hecate Theatre’s “Metamorphoses” tells the tale of four students in a Victorian girls’ boarding school, the night before their debutant ball – before they transform (in the eyes of society) into women. In the excitement of their anticipation, they recount to each other tales of transformation, re-enacting Ovid’s stories with a 19th century twist.
The “Metamorphoses” features horror, comedy and the anxieties of youth, expressed through heart-wrenching performances, a cappella choral work, and the kind of inspired staging seen in “A Halloween Cabaret.” Dark, twisted and hilarious.
As part of the Bristol Shakespeare Festival, all-female company Hecate Theatre’s third show relocates the story of twins separated at sea, and the ensuing romantic mishaps, to a 1930s nightclub, owned by the play’s Count Orsino. This retelling features live music, gangsters, knife-fights, innovative staging (performed in a ¾ round) and gorgeous costumes. It promises to be a unique, thought-provoking but hugely enjoyable take on Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy – undoubtedly a night to relive twelve times over at least!
Hecate Theatre reassemble the team from their successful debut show, “A Halloween Cabaret,” for their own twisted take on the festive season. Inspired by the vaudeville shows of the early 20th century, “Stockings by the Fire” infuses music, comedy, circus tricks, storytelling, and a mild dose of audience participation, to create a selection of acts creepy, comic and Christmassy!
A radio play to be performed live! Kick-start the new year with a feast of funny and fright as a handful of actors, two microphones, a keyboard and a variety of sound-making props, perform a live radio comedy paying homage to wireless dramas of the 1940s/50s. When Janet De Bastion returns to her family home for a grand birthday party, she is shocked to discover that her eccentric late Uncle Ignatius, who claimed to have discovered the secret of alchemy just before his untimely death, has left her a treasure map in his will. However, it transpires that Janet isn’t the only one hunting for Uncle Iggy’s gold, entangling her in a cast of crackpot characters, crime, mystery and voices from beyond the grave…
