Town to Tide Artistic Director Brief

St Blazey Reclaimed, a community organisation in St Blazey is seeking an experienced Artistic Director to lead the Town to Tide project. The Artistic Director will lead the creative team who will put together an interactive performance of promenade theatre to take place in September 2012. This will be an open air event taking place along the Par River estuary.

  Town to Tide project aims to develop a sense of place for the residents of St Blazey by giving them a creative way to learn of the historic origins and cultural development of their locality. The Artistic Director will need to take overall responsibility for putting together a creative team, devising, planning and running community workshops and the final event. There is a wealth of original material already collected and the practitioner’s role will be to enable residents to write the script, editing and enhancing as appropriate.

 

The project start date will be in the first week in June 2012.  The performance will take place during the day time of either 8th or 15th September 2012 . The AD will plan and set the rehearsal and production schedule to fit in with the proposed performance date, in agreement with St. Blazey Reclaimed.

St Blazey Reclaimed has received funding for the Town to Tide project.  There is a budget of £11,520  allocated to cover the fees of the Creative Team (including Artistic Director), with the Artistic Director being responsible for appointing the team and allocating the budget.  There is an additional production budget of up to £1400. 

St Blazey Reclaimed will act as budget holder and producer.

Artistic Director’s Role

  • To put together a creative team, leading and managing them throughout the process
  • To oversee the development of the script with the community of St Blazey
  • To rehearse and direct Town to Tide for production
  • To work in an inclusive way with the community
  • To be a role model for the community performers , particularly young people and work with them to stretch their abilities to new levels, increasing their confidence, skills and talents
  • Attend meetings with St Blazey reclaimed as necessary
  • To be active in the evaluation of the project as required
  • To work to an agreed budget

 

Director’s skills requirement

The ability to plan, create and deliver new work alongside the community

Experience of directing community performers to a high-standard

Experience of working with community groups, young people and volunteers

Experience of recruiting and managing a creative team

Willingness to work collaboratively and inclusively

Experience of managing budgets

Excellent communication skills

 

An enhanced CRB check will be required.
