Bristol
We are a new production company in Bristol, called 24Winks. For more information on our team please see our profile. Our current project is a film entitled Child of Nature, a working title. We are looking for an actor aged between 38-55 years old to play the father of our male protagonist, who is a young lad aged between 18-22 years old.
This film will be shot on super16 film, which means that our production company’s costs are a lot higher than if we were using digital media and hence why we are unable to pay our actors as our budget already stands at £10,000. There are very few production companies which are able to use this medium now, given that its costs are far more extensive than that of digital. Film offers though a much higher optical fidelity and a far better range of colour and consequently is still preferred over digital in full cinematic projection.
In using film, our post-production costs are also more expensive; however, the end product achieved is always worth the extra attention required. We also have a large team of professional film music composers who work closely with our director and editor in post-production, delivering original scores, which undoubtedly enhance the quality of the film even further.
A brief synopsis of the film can be found below:
Child of Nature - is a story based around a young man who lives a life of isolation from the modern world in a forest. He has a strange spiritual relationship with his environment and has an obsessive and somewhat perturbing relationship with nature. While it provides everything for him and he is in awe at its beauty; he also suffers from a great fear of the elements, especially the river that surrounds him. Placed in this situation by his mother and father, who have since disappeared, he knows nothing of the outside world and the human relationships that thrive within it. He lives alone with Mother Nature.
One day, a young girl washes up in the river and changes his whole perception of the world. By showing him that he is not alone and that there is more outside of this solitary “island” life that he has become accustomed to. Through their mutual curiosity of each other, his previous regimented life in the forest begins to unravel and a more sinister side to his world begins to unfold. It becomes more and more apparent that he is living in a captive situation, set up by his mother, rather than in an “idyllic island paradise”. The young man is then faced with the decision of either staying trapped in this familiar and somewhat romantic life in nature or overcoming his fear of the river and seeking an independent life in a strange new world that he does not know. The film focuses on the ideas of independence and entrapment. Does this young man possess more freedom living alone surrounded by the joys of the natural world or would he experience greater freedom and independence if he left this safety zone and ventured out into the unknown.
Filming dates - 16th-30th September 2010. Candidates will be required to be available a few days prior to the shoot for rehearsals.
