Application Deadline: 17.08.17 17:00

Hollow is an original story about a boy, Luke, and a man, Michael, who find an owl in need of help. They forge an uneasy relationship as they try to nurse the owl back to health but suspicion and mistrust threaten to make everything fall apart. A show about communication, responsibility and trust.

Hollow will be a devised show using innovative puppetry and minimal words to explore how we communicate and empathise with each other.

Created by Brunskill and Grimes and developed for the egg, Bath, for the Leverhulme Arts Scholarship.

Hollow will be created by Andy Brunskill (Young Vic, National Theatre, Associate Director or War Horse in West End) and Jimmy Grimes (Young Vic, Little Angel, Theatre By the Lake, Associate Puppetry Director of War Horse in the West End) and they are looking for TWO PUPPETEERS and TWO ACTORS for a one week and two day period of research and development at the egg, Bath.

Two puppeteers operate the Barn Owl puppet. No age/sex/ethnicity preference. Must be experienced puppeteers with demonstrable experience and physically fit and able.

Keen interest in devising and developing new work a must.

Actor 1: To play Luke: Male, any ethnicity, playing age 16 years old.

Luke is the boy who finds the owl and forges an unlikely, uneasy relationship with it. He is local to the Bath area. He is quiet, very emotionally sensitive and not very quick to trust people.

Must be able to perform with and authentic Bath accent. A major part of the process will be improvisation and working through and developing new material so a keen interest in devising and developing new work a must.

Actor 2: To play Michael: Male, any ethnicity, 40-50 years old.

Mike encounters Luke and the owl and tries to help both. He is slightly awkward and looks like he probably hasn’t had much sleep or luck in life.

A major part of the process will be improvisation and working through and developing new material so a keen interest in devising and developing new work a must.

£400/week for week commencing 25th September.

£80/day for 4th/5th October.
