ABOUT ME - A PLAYWRIGHT
HELLO! I'm Michael Starr, a Bristol based British Playwright.
I started writing in 2006. Since then, my plays have been performed around the world, from America to the Middle East, across Europe back through to the United Kingdom.
Recently, my only radio play, Leave me Alone!, was produced by BBC Radio 2, and I enjoyed a near sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a debut playscript through my own touring company on it's first ever production.
My full length play Stranded was published to major retail outlets in book form, and was even adapted into Japanese text.
Two of my plays were performed in Qatar and Saudi Arabia!
The majority of my playscripts are dark humoured and often farcical. Most of my plays require only single or minimal blackbox staging and my licencing fees are extremely competitive (only a few dollars/pounds per performance!) These factors I believe make them perfectly suited to festival, school and/or community theatre productions on a tight budget.
I keep my royalty prices low as I self publish through my own marketplace. I'm always happy to connect with creative people in the local area and I like to help where I can with local companies.
Oh, I'm also a theatre critic for Remotegoat and a script adjudicator for the annual Australian Short n' Sweet Festival.
MY TOURING THEATRE COMPANY - THE FRINGE FILES
The Fringe Files are a theatre touring company I formed in early 2011. The Fringe Files act as a test vehicle for some of my new material exclusively. Our first production was the premiere of my one act noir parody The Curse of Miss Fortune. In the Autumn of 2011 we toured The Curse of Miss Fortune, stopping off at Bristol, London and a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2012, The Fringe Files will be producing a re-drafted version of my whodunit parody The Cook Did It! I'll be sure to post details of that nearer the time.
The Fringe Files are very fortunate to have a collective of wonderful people, but we're always happy to hear from local folk keen to join the adventure and expand their horizons. Please do get in touch if you'd like to get involved!
SCRIPTS MARKETPLACE - PRODUCTION SCRIPTS
In 2009, I set-up Production Scripts, a leading marketplace for digital download theatre and radio scripts. All of my playscripts are listed exclusively through Production Scripts and they handle all of my licencing accordingly. It’s a bit like a bargain bucket where you’ll often stumble across some marvellous plays for a very reasonable price. The instant downloads and licencing makes it a must have bookmark. Production Scripts can also be found on Facebook and Twitter. However, that said, you should really consider my plays first!
I actively encourage other playwrights to check out this service!
