Equity has admitted its high-profile bid to obtain a £400 a week minimum across the board for actors and stage managers working outside the West End is looking “very difficult”.

To mark their arrival, Bristol Old Vic’s new Artistic and Executive Directors Tom Morris and Emma Stenning have created Bristol Jam - the UK’s first festival of improvised performance, an audacious and playful melting pot of spontaneity for audiences of all ages. Bristol’s love of improvised jazz is famous but Bristol Old Vic takes this further, throwing open its doors to a maverick week of improvised performance in all forms; from classical drama, comedy and storytelling to music, beatbox and film. From the 16 – 24 October, artists at the top of their game will bring extraordinary work to every corner of Bristol Old Vic, created on the spur of the moment.

Fusion in new London partnership

Bristol theatre company Travelling Light’s youth theatre company Fusion has developed an exciting new exchange programme with acclaimed young people’s theatre the Unicorn in London. Fusion will be showcasing their new production Paper Wings to members of Unicorn’s Youth Theatre as a start to what looks to be the beginning of a fruitful creative partnership between the companies.

Bristol City Council’s Single Project Fund Documents now online

Now in it’s second year, Bristol City Council's Arts Festivals and Events Single Project Fund (SPF) is once again welcoming applications for high-quality, innovative arts projects. The application process is open to individual, groups and organisations and the amount of funding available this year is £80,000.

Theatre West announce Autumn season

Theatre West have announced their Autumn season of new plays at the Alma Tavern.

Street Pianos come to Bristol

Sixteen pianos are set to grace Bristol’s communities as part of a new art and music project, which will bring the city’s streets alive to sound of music. The project, called ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ is led by local artist, Luke Jerram, in partnership with the city council’s Neighbourhood Arts Team and the Colston Hall opening celebrations. The pianos will be installed in public spaces around the city from Friday, September 4 to Monday, September 28. They will be available for anyone to play, paint or decorate. The installed pianos will act as an invitation to local people to play, meet up with friends and neighbours and share their creativity.

Bristol arts charity to open new dockside rehearsal, workshop and performance space
