Expired: Physical Theatre/Clowning Summer School with Up The Ante and Igne Barkauskaite

Ante Theatre - Up The Ante

Cost: £60/£40 Concession

Up The Ante Theatre Company and Igne Barkauskaite are pleased to announce another addition to their collaborative workshop series. Our Summer School offers an immersive weekend of theatre training, with the option to attend individual sessions should you prefer.

Please note that the booking deadline is Sunday 16th July.

Saturday 22nd July - Introduction to Physical Theatre

This workshop invites participants to explore the founding principles of Jacques Lecoq’s approach to movement and physicality. It is designed for theatre makers, actors and teachers who are interested in devised performance and would like to gain a better understanding of ensemble work and collective creation. The aim of this workshop is to offer a range of tools that help to develop one's own theatrical language and stimulate the theatre maker’s imagination, approaching the creative process through the idea of the actor-creator. The first part of the workshop will be improvisation-based and will concentrate on a variety of ensemble and individual exercises which will focus on the analysis and quality of movement, space, rhythm and tension as well as the exploration of the dynamics of elements, colours, sounds and materials. The second part will concentrate on the work with the Neutral Mask through which participants will be encouraged to go past their ‘naturalistic’ bodies in order to increase their level of physical acting and play. At the end of the workshop participants will devise a one-minute piece on a given theme/phrase. All the materials will be provided at the workshop.

Sunday 23rd July - Introduction to Clowning

This workshop focuses on the principles of the individual theatre clown's techniques through improvisation and the physical aspect of acting. The workshop is open to performers of all levels and disciplines and is designed for those who would like to explore the world of clowning in greater detail. The workshop is inspired by the teachings of Jacques Lecoq and engages participants in a range of exercises, games and situations which stimulate the clown’s state - openness, presence, complicity with the audience and play. Throughout the workshop participants will explore their personal clowning narratives and will be guided to a gradual discovery of one’s comic persona on stage. Red nose provided.
