Expired: The Body of Sound: Movement and Voice Workshop

Ante Theatre - Up The Ante

Cost: £30 full price, £25 concession

Live Dates: Sunday 7th May 3.15-6:15pm

This workshop offers a holistic approach to actor’s movement and voice and is designed for performers of various disciplines who would like to gain a better understanding of how to use one’s voice efficiently, imaginatively and safely. The workshop will concentrate on the exploration of one’s natural voice, freeing the voice of the unnecessary tensions, inhibitions and harmful habits. Through the use of classical singing technique and various physical ensemble exercises participants will explore the dynamics of colour, material and emotion in order to exercise the performer’s imagination and focus on the articulation of movement and voice. This workshop is a great opportunity to strengthen one’s awareness of the voice and its connection with the body and gain a range of helpful tools which can later lay a foundation for a regular individual practice and be used as a solid basis for the creation and development of a character.

About the facilitators:

Lucy Hannam is a singer and composer who has a BMus Degree from Cardiff University. She studied classical singing and techniques. Lucy is the vocal coach for Up the Ante and incorporates voice techniques in the rehearsal processes. She focuses on safe technique to improve actor’s control and awareness of their own voices.

Igne trained at “L’Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq” (2011 – 2013) and also holds a BA in Drama at UWE (2008-2011). Whilst in Paris, Igne has also had an opportunity to train with Peter Brook (International Centre for Theatre Research) and Nina Dipla (Tanztheatre Wuppertal - Pina Bausch). After completing her two – year course at Lecoq, Igne continued her research at Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico (Syracuse) where she also worked as a visiting movement and improvisation teacher for the undergraduate actors’ course (2013-2014). As a workshop facilitator and teacher, Igne aims to create an encouraging and inclusive environment where her students can explore, experiment and challenge themselves through the process of learning.

Some feedback on previous Up The Ante workshops with Igne:

Engaging and thought provoking as well as developing skills that will assist in creating performance. I really value the physical aspect of acting, too often acting is performed cerebrally. The trainer Igne was excellent and made sure we all got involved. I think the number of people who attended was also about right. ~ Shekhar V.

I really enjoyed the workshop and would definitely like to attend another one. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to continue my training/exploration and connect with other artists. It was extremely refreshing and I felt very welcome. ~ Sophie C.

Really enjoyed the second workshop done with Igne. Great to have access to her knowledge and insight to better inform my process as an actor. Look forward to the next. ~ Tabitha F.

I enjoyed the warm-up and games used to bring the group together. I felt very welcomed and I really enjoyed the teaching and exercises set by Igne. ~ Linda M.
