Phillippa Spencer-Harrop

Trained actor with a BA Acting (Bretton Hall, 2007)and MA Performance Research (Bristol, 2016). Currently a PhD candidate in Theatre Studies researching the following actor training techniques through a feminist lens: Viewpoints, Composition and the Suzuki Method of Actor Training.

My current interests are focused around my PhD. Through this research I have trained in the Nine Viewpoints, Composition and the Suzuki technique with Anne Bogart and the SITI Company in New York for a month-long intensive in 2016. Earlier in 2017 I took part in workshops on the Suzuki technique as part of a symposium between the SITI Company and the Suzuki Company of Toga. In addition I will be undergoing a week-long workshop with Mary Overlie on the Six Viewpoints in July 2017. I am interested in exploring how these techniques foster a sense of creative agency for actors-in-training in the UK.

This is underpinned by a longstanding interest in collaborative processes, devised theatre, contemporary theatre, and postmodern theatre practices, and over ten years of professional and academic experience in acting, performance, and theatre. I also have LAMDA Grades 6-8, Silver and Gold all at Distinction.
