Rose Martin and Nicola Bailey are two female theatre practitioners with many combined years of experience in drama and theatre arts who have finalised a partnership and created The Steal Lipped Theatre Company. As Co founders we run the business and share the decision making on an agreed basis. We are self-employed and personally responsible for all actions within the company. Predominantly we are a close partnership and are extremely passionate about we do. Create theatre.

Why we do it.

The Steal Lipped Theatre Company strives to produce diverse and high quality theatre that is available for all types of audiences whilst taking advantage of the aesthetics of their local area in the county of Somerset.

We are a professional company that endeavours to present extremely high standards of dramatic talent that is rife, yet frequently unnoticed, within our local community. By combining our own personal abilities along with additional production members and an exciting cast, we aim to produce entertaining and innovative theatre that appeals to all generations. By appreciating the basic visuals of performance, as a company we simply enhance talented performers through creative direction. This is our company’s key attribute, raising awareness of raw, local talent.

Therefore, we seek to engage with local schools and young drama enthusiasts in our work, and help provide professional performance experience for 16 – 25 year olds in the community. This is made especially more poignant to young adults due to the government cuts to the Somerset art budget in 2010. We wish to make the most of the local home-grown talent within the community. As graduates and previous drama students themselves and inhabitants of Clevedon in North Somerset, both Rose and Nicola appreciate the difficulty in practicing drama growing up in the small town. By forming The Steal Lipped Company they choose to make this a thing of the past.

As stated, we are an established local theatre company; we take pride in our community and what it has to offer. By endeavouring to recognize the incredible aesthetic surroundings that Somerset has to offer, and in particular, Clevedon seafront as a stage/backdrop to our performances we are creating something new and fresh and above all, natural and raw, like the talent of our actors.
We do not seek any form of financial aid, but rather base our company on community support. All profits from our performances go to local charities. We are dedicated to our home.

The world is a stage.

We wanted to inspire and contact youths in the local area of North Somerset for our initial project as this is very personal to us. As stated, we are committed to our home and the talent it has. As a company, we have begun, what hopes to be, a very long journey.

Though we have both worked with successful companies beforehand, creating The Steal Lipped Theatre Company was, is and will always remain to be educational for us. There will be many things to learn, explore and discover which is incredibly exciting. However, ultimately, we will always remain loyal to our aim of unearthing raw artistic talent in local communities, finding new casts and company members and promoting the beautiful amenities and aesthetics that ours, and many others have.

What can we do for you?

At the moment we provide professional experience for all budding young actors and make high standard of theatre accessible to the ages of 16-25 year olds. By pushing forward art schemes for our local community we want to create a rich cultural basis for a talented young adult.

However, we do not simply search for performers.

Not only do we seek to find and promote the best performers but also young people interested in the working methods of a professional production. These include all behind the scenes roles that help in producing excellent productions. Be it stage management, costume or lighting, if you aren’t experienced already we will apply our wealth of knowledge to all those willing to learn new skills in a fast paced exciting industry.
