Theatre West was formed in 1990 by Joint Artistic Directors Alison Comley and Ann Stiddard with the aim of producing exciting, innovative and, above all, accessible theatre.
Our first productions were at the Showboat pub on Gloucester Road in Bristol. In 1997 we worked with the brewery Scottish and Newcastle to convert the function room of the Alma Tavern into a purpose built 50 seat theatre, and made the move to our present home.
We produce a ten week autumn season each year which have, since 2003, featured only new writing. Until last year we made an annual visit to the Studio at the Bristol Old Vic and we certainly hope to return once it re-opens.
We have also toured Latvia on several occasions where we have cemented strong cultural links, our last tour being in 2006 when we toured Little Pictures by Mike Akers to six towns.
