Barton Hill Settlement, 43 Ducie Road, Barton Hill, Bristol BS5 0AXWe have been creating inspiring theatre for young people since 1984. We tour to local schools as well as to theatres and festivals throughout UK. We also take our shows to international festivals eg in Romania and Korea.
This year we are celebrating 25 years of making theatre for young people. To create high quality work we experiment with new ideas and inspirations through research & development.
Much of our work is devised: live music is integral to all productions and stories are told in a visual, physical and inventive way.
Some press reviews of the work:
An absolutely charming theatrical adventure Sunday Herald on CLOWN
A real delight… a reminder that drama for the under-5s is one of the most inventive areas in British theatre today The Guardian on CLOUDLAND
We also work with young people through our education and development projects as well as three thriving youth theatre groups. We run an annual site specific summer school which has taken place in various settings such as Redcliffe caves, Goblin Combe and the Arnolfini gallery in Bristol docks.
We have become experts in the field of Early Years through the development of education programmes for our early years shows and involvement in the ground-breaking 5×5×5 Creativity in the Early Years project.
Current shows are ALI BABA, a co-production with the Tobacco Factory and HOW COLD MY TOES, a co-production with Bristol Old Vic and Birmingham Rep. We are also running several Research & Development weeks for shows in 2010-11; Pobby and Dingan based on the book of the same name & Bob, the Man in the Moon, a co-production with Sixth Sense. We are also working with Show of Strength on Celebration, a series of short plays at the Create Centre in April 2010.
