Following sold-out, critically acclaimed runs of Macbeth at the Redcliffe Caves (2015 & 2016) and Orpheus & Eurydice in the Suspension Bridge Vaults (2017), INSANE ROOT is thrilled to return this winter with a brand new production! We will be breathing new life into Shakespeare’s epic tale of magic, vengeance and redemption: THE TEMPEST.

Hidden within the medieval walls of Bristol lies a magician’s library, full of old tales and forgotten secrets. Join its owner, the legendary Prospero, as music and memory transport him back to the island of his banishment. Here he must relive old rivalries, confront lost love and discover again what it means to be Master of the Elements.

THE TEMPEST in St John on the Wall’s Crypt is a genre-defying production featuring: a cast of four, the company’s hallmark live acapella harmonies and candle-lit surroundings. Insane Root have woven Shakespeare’s original text with brand new compositions by Ellie Showering to retell the story through the character of Prospero, years after the events of the play itself.

VENUE LOCATION: Church of St John the Baptist - “St John on the Wall”, Broad St, Bristol, BS1 2EZ

TRANSPORT:  There is extremely limited pay-on-street parking in the immediate vicinity of the Church. CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR: Personal torches are not required. Warm clothing is recommended. High heels and stillettos are not permitted in the crypt due to the damage they may cause to the floor.

TICKETS: Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.  In exceptional circumstances we may be able to transfer your tickets to another performance, but reserve the right to charge a small admin fee - and/or the difference in ticket price if relevant - for doing so. Tickets can only be guaranteed for your initial booking and only after we have received payment.

Further restrictions may apply - please check at time of booking.
