The Puppeteers Network was established in 2016 so that Equity could work more closely with puppeteers to gain greater recognition for their skills and work issues, which can be quite distinct from those of actors and other performers. The first meeting, in London, was one of Equity’s most well attended Network events ever, and since then the Network has gone on to positively influence the employment of puppeteers in all areas of our industry.

Since its formation the Network has continued to hold regular meetings in London and at various puppetry events and festivals across the UK. We have collectively managed to achieve a broad spectrum of professional improvements including standardised contracts with ITC, improved health and safety and better pay, but above all we continue to protect and advance the interest of puppeteers by working together.

Regional meetings are being set up in order to better represent puppeteers working in different areas of the UK and Bristol is our first one. We are very excited to hear how Equity can better support puppetry practitioners operating in and around the West Country! The meeting is being held on Sunday 2nd February at Hamilton House from 3pm-5pm. The meeting will take place upstairs in the Mild West room and will be followed by informal drinks downstairs in the Canteen.

This is an open meeting, so you do not have to be a member of equity to attend. It is a chance to come and learn about the Network, celebrate what it has achieved and contribute to its future.
