FLY! Festival of Black Women’s Theatre – the fist ever Black Women’s Theatre festival ever to be held in the UK – hits Bristol between 20th and 28th June.  a veritable feast of performances and workshops taking place at Arnolfini, 20th, 21st, 22, 24,25 and 28th and Bristol Old Vic 23 June. Check out Sheba Soul Ensemble’s new piece Warnings – or earlier production of Lovesplay. Then there’s Kali Theatre bringing Discoveries. Maya Chowdhry offers us something completely different with digital theatre which includes a delicious meal.Then there are our foreign guests to check out – Paige Hernandez from Washington bringing hip-hop theatre to Bristol and Josiane Antourel and Yna Boulange of Caribbean Dance Company Danselavia with their mesmerising piece ‘Cry of my roots’. Nandita Ghose who produces radio drama for the BBC will be running a writing for radio workshop.

Jenny Davis is overseeing the rehearsed reading On the Up which consists of three productions- the first is Moon Heaven by Bristol-based Ros Martin; then we are proud to bring My Name is Name, by Indonesian playwright Herlina Syarifudin and finally we are bringing Paula David’s ‘Blod, Sweat and Vaginas’ to the attention of Bristol.
