UNVEILING OF A BLUE PLAQUE TO CELEBRATE BRISTOL’S FIRST THEATRE

This Friday 31st May at 13:15 there will be an unveiling of a Civic Society Blue Plaque to commemorate Bristol‘s first purpose built theatre. Please come along.

The plaque is to be placed on Brandon House, 15 Jacob’s Wells Rd,Bristol BS8 1DX, a block of flats approximately half way up the road on the left.

The Jacob’s Wells Theatre was Bristol’s first purpose built theatre and operated from 1729 to 1799. It preceded the Theatre Royal. For more information see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobs_Well_Theatre

The plaque will be unveiled by the Lord Mayor as part of a short ceremony that will include a unique street performance by students of the Old Vic Theatre School of an extract from The Beggars Opera – a play performed in the Theatre.
