The future of a family is in jeopardy when ex-military father, Tommy, can’t admit to anyone he needs help coping with transition stress. Fellow Veteran, Dorian, sets Tommy on the right path to healing himself, so as to bring him back together with his wife and young son.
TOMMY [MALE] [PLAYING AGE: 34-39]
Tommy joined the Army from school and had a successful career before he left a few months ago. He’s struggling with his transition to ‘civvie’. His stress and anxiety, which he refuses to acknowledge, has led to a marriage breakdown and him moving out of the family home recently. A proud man with a military bearing, he’s always taken care of business and of himself, and retains an obvious fitness from years of active service.
DORIAN [MALE] [PLAYING AGE: 38-50] * but can be flexible if slightly older or younger.
Ex-Army and with that same military bearing, Dorian understands Tommy’s predicament having sought professional help to deal with that himself. Dorian is training to be a Mime Artist but he’s not yet very good. He wants to show Tommy the doorway to the help he so clearly needs and see this family heal. ** Mime experience needed for this part, but only has to be good enough to be ‘bad’ as well as show convincing improvement over the course of the story.
EMMA [FEMALE] [PLAYING AGE: 33-40]
Having been an Army wife for some time, Emma has had to cope with her own transition to civilian life as well as Tommy and their son Jack’s. At the end of her tether, she gave Tommy an ultimatum; get help or move out, for our sake. Rather than admit he has a mental health issue, which he sees as a weakness and failure, Tommy chose to leave, something Emma didn’t really want. She just wants her old Tommy back, but he’s in denial that he needs help.
SENIOR EXECUTIVE [FEMALE] [PLAYING AGE: 35-45]
High powered executive. A former member of the armed forces, now extremely successful in business.
BARMAN [MALE] [PLAYING AGE: 35-55]
Experienced bar manager – could break up a fight if he needed to.
SQUADDIE 1 [MALE] [PLAYING AGE: 20 – 25]
Physically fit, clean cut soldier. Has been in the army for a couple of years but has not risen through the ranks yet.
SQUADDIE 2 [FEMALE] [PLAYING AGE: 20 – 25]
Can hold her own with the others. Has also been in the army for a couple of years but has not risen through the ranks yet. Definitely officer material though.
SQUADDIE 3 [MALE] [PLAYING AGE: 20 – 25]
Clean cut soldier. He has recently acquired an injury but despite this is clearly physically fit.
