MAIN RELATIONSHIPS    Digital & Communications Officer, PR & Communications Officer, Ticket Sales Team, Communications & Sales Director

Wiltshire Creative comprises Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury International Arts Festival and Salisbury Playhouse, offering a year-round programme of plays, music, film, dance, comedy and visual arts to audiences of over 120,000. Alongside this, the Take Part programme offers a range of creative activities for all ages in and out of our venues.

In the lead-up to and during the 2020 Salisbury International Arts Festival, the Communications Assistant (Trainee) will provide support across marketing, PR and sales activity for the full range of Wiltshire Creative’s activities. It is a fantastic opportunity for an individual entering the arts and/or marketing industry or returning to work after a break.



  • Supporting the Communications Team with marketing activity
  • Supporting the PR Officer with news and social media coverage
  • Assisting with digital marketing campaigns
  • Supporting and attending events during the Festival (2 May – 7 June 2020)



  • Keeping the Wiltshire Creative website up to date with content
  • Undertaking simple design work (e.g. flyers, e-flyers, programme sheets)
  • Assisting with e-marketing activity
  • Monitoring print storage and undertaking regular distribution around the city
  • Attending weekly Communications meetings and contributing ideas to support campaign planning
  • Assisting with social media coverage leading up to and during the Festival (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram)
  • Monitoring and creating Front of House displays in our venues
  • Research (target groups, audience contacts, marketing tools)
  • Uploading listings information onto relevant websites
  • Attending Festival events, ensuring appropriate Communications materials are available

  • A passion for the arts and an awareness of their benefits to everyone
  • A desire to pursue a career in the arts, marketing or PR sectors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, with the ability to take initiative
  • Ability to work both in a team and individually
  • Highly computer literate – familiar with Word, Excel and basic design software
  • An understanding of how social media can be used effectively
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends (during the Festival)
  • Excellent customer service



  • Experience of office administration
  • Experience of an arts organisation
  • Experience of a customer ticketing system
  • Some design experience








Salary                        £17,076.80 per annum pro rata (£8.21per hour)


Duration                    6 months (Jan/Feb – Jun/Jul 2020)


Hours of work         24 hours (3 days) per week until March, rising to 40 hours (5 days) per week thereafter.
