Salary: GBP £500
Application Deadline: June 24, 2020 5:00 pm
Company: Pins and Needles Productions
Pins and Needles Productions is an award-winning, female-led theatre company in Bristol, based on a strong Director/Designer partnership between Emma Earle & Zoe Squire.
We create imaginative theatre for all ages and are passionate about finding playful ways to tell stories full of heart, humour and magic.
As part of our developing Associate Artist Scheme, we want to offer support to emerging Directors and Designers in the theatre industry at this time.
We are looking for one Director and one Designer to support us in the research of two new projects, a digital adaptation of War of the Worlds and a new family adaptation. These projects are at the initial stages of development and offer an exciting opportunity for an emerging artist to be involved right at the beginning of the creative journey.
The Associates will work alongside Emma and Zoe to explore how Pins and Needles might adapt the books for audiences, both online and live. The successful artists may have the opportunity to be involved in the next stage of the project if this is appropriate.
For the two research placements, we can offer a fee of £500 per person, covering the period of July to September 2020. This is a flexible, part time role and is designed to fit around the applicants’ other commitments. We expect that contact time with the team will be approximately two Zoom meetings per month to discuss findings and check in, plus research time outside of this.
Who and what are we looking for?
- An emerging artist/ recent graduate
- Bristol/ south-west based
- A passion for finding unique and innovative ways to collaborate with other artists
- Someone who is happy to work independently – this will mainly be a remote working role due to current restrictions
- An interest or experience in adapting written work
- Strong research skills and the ability to report findings accurately and succinctly
- Someone who feels they would benefit from the mentorship that Pins and Needles can offer
We will offer a shortlist of 6 artists (3 Designers, 3 Directors) the chance to interview for the role.
We are pleased to be able to offer these shortlisted applicants 3 mentoring sessions with us over 6 months from July to December, whether they are successful in the role or not. These mentoring sessions are offered as an opportunity for emerging artists to ask questions, have someone to bounce ideas off and engage with Pins and Needles for support in the first stages of their careers.
