MUSIC COLLABORATOR CALL OUT
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 10TH JULY @ 6PM
We are looking for a musician who has experience in composing, songwriting and working with vocal harmony in a collaborative environment to come into the R+D process of our newest production, ‘Witches of Bideford’ (working title). Preferably a pianist/guitarist but we are open to all other musical instruments if it fits the creative criteria.
We are initially looking to explore a combination of styles: earthy folk music (e.g. I See Rivers, Joseph, Laura Marling, The Staves) with 80s synth pop. Think 17th century meets sequinned magic show! We are also excited to see what you can bring to the rehearsal room, so take a look at the show details below and see what ideas some to mind.
The music collaborator will spend three days working in the rehearsal room with the company to explore ideas & generate initial composition for a work-in-progress sharing.
Experience in recording music would be ideal but not essential. This role has potential to develop into a future collaboration on the project commencing in January 2020.
ABOUT THE SHOW
Meet the Grace Sisters: triplet magicians extraordinaire & the last remaining descendants of the Bideford Witches (or so they reckon). In Bideford 1682, the final witch trial in Britain took place. In an age dominated by fear of feminine magic, three women were accused of witchcraft, tried & hanged. Now fast forward to present day & name one female magician…pretty tricky. Frankly, the Grace Sisters are tired of being stuffed in a box & sawn in half. They’re here to grab the limelight in a one-off extravaganza to prove that, once & for all, magic really does run through their veins.
Join the Grace sisters as they struggle to differentiate between magic, history & reality, while revealing what really happened one fateful night 337 years ago. Witches of Bideford is a raucous cabaret show & part 3 in our trilogy about unwritten women of history.

HOW TO APPLY
Email subject heading: Casting – Music Collaborator
- Video cover letter
- Portfolio/Examples of your previous work
Please send your CV, examples of your previous composition work, and a 2-3 minute video (if you are unable to send us a video then a 500 word short cover letter will be fine) introducing yourself to the team and telling us why you would like you’d like to work on the Witches of Bideford. This can be shot on a phone, you can read from notes or you can just make it up as you go.
Your video/cover letter might include a bit about the work you’ve done previously, your skills, and any other relevant experience. You could show off some of your musical composition skills, show us your party trick, bring in a friend to show us how you work collaboratively, or simply tell us about you and your interests. This video/cover letter is an opportunity for you to show us who you are, as we are unable to hold face to face auditions/interviews for this process so we will be going on your application alone. We think that video might be the best way of doing this, so if you are happy and able to send us a video, that is our preferred option.
We will let you know if our decision at the latest by Wednesday 17th July @ 6pm
Please let us know in your email if you have any further access needs. We are an inclusive company, and we will try our best to work to ensure your access needs are met. The rehearsal space for this current project is in a renovated barn which can only be accessed by stairs.
