Verbatim Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) R&D

In collaboration with University of Bristol and Fen, Propolis Theatre will be running an R&D period for a verbatim performance on women’s experiences of Domestic Violence and Abuse (yet to be titled). The company will be using and responding to qualitative data collected by researchers over a period of 10 years on women’s experiences of Domestic Violence and Abuse collated for Propolis are looking for a female performer to come in during the second week to become a core cast member and help devise around the material. This will culminate in a private sharing of material to venues, artists, charity representatives and healthcare professionals on the Friday. This R&D is supported by University of Bristol, Bristol Old Vic and using public funding from Arts Council England.

R&D taking place on 7th-11th May in central Bristol.

Fee is £100 p/d for a total of 5 days.

Travel: we can cover one return trip to get to Bristol and up to £20 travel expenses during the week.

Experience of performing verbatim desirable but not necessary 

As the R&D is soon the first part of the audition will be a self tape audition. There is a possibility that there will be a follow up hour workshop in Bristol on the week commencing 30th April. Attached to this post is the audition pack with a full character breakdown of the role as well as instructions for the self-tape audition which needs to be emailed to the address given alongside a spotlight link or CV.

Yasmin Breakdown 

The main role for this actor is Yasmin, there is a possibility that this actor will be multi-roling. 

Main role – Yasmin: 
Playing age 30 – 45
Pakistani / British Asian

Background: Yasmin is a 32 year old British Asian woman living with her three children in a Housing Association house. She left her family in Pakistan when she was seventeen, to live in the UK with her married sister and to enter into an arranged marriage with the brother of her sister’s husband. She has little education, no work experience, and has recently taught herself to speak English.

Self tapes and CV’s must be sent to the email in the attached audition pack by Thursday at 11:59pm.
