Salary: GBP Tbc
Application Deadline: March 17, 2019 8:00 am
Company: Peer Gynt 2020
After developing Peer Gynt 2020, I am now looking for ambitious, brave actors to join the cast.
Ibsen’s epic adventure of rebellion, trolls, true love and self-discovery was written in 1867. Drawing on Norwegian myth and legend, as well as Ibsen’s own deeply personal life experiences, it is a sensory feast and an amazing journey to travel.
After a very successful workshop back in September, I began to form the team I needed. I am now looking for the right actors to bring our vision to life.
Our first performance will essentially be a Scratch Night- five or six scenes from our adaptation complete with full production, including live music, to be performed over this summer in Bristol.
Ibsen’s original has a huge cast. Our re-imagination has five actors and a small band and will be performed in a studio theatre. In the tradition of Poor Theatre, we need actors with strong physical skills, who are able to multi-role and still bring to life the complexities of Ibsen’s characters. Our production draws on other cultural touchstones, including the Wizard of Oz, to heighten directness of this story to the contemporary psyche. Experience of speaking verse is an asset, as is a strong singing voice.
The character descriptions of the three principals (Peer, Solveig, Troll King) can be obtained below.
We are planning a three-week rehearsal period before presenting Peer Gynt to the public in late summer. We will then seek funding for our full production. We will audition all successful applicants by mid-March
Please send your CV, a headshot, a paragraph about your work and links to any showreels or voice reels that you may have.
We are currently applying to the Arts Council and Bristol City Council for funding and waiting to hear about the results of our applications. We are also seeking funding from independent sources.
