Company: Beth Emily Richards
Poor Copy is a new performance work by artist Beth Emily Richards, which investigates the bizarre narratives of Michael Jackson in Devon between 1999 and 2002. The work uses archival research and oral histories to explore ideas of tribute, hoax, urban legends, and fan histories. The work will be performed at both visual art galleries and performance spaces, alongside video, photography, sound and sculpture relating to the same narratives. For more information about Beth’s practice visit: http://bethemilyrichards.com/
This is an Arts Council England funded project.
Three performers will deliver a work in the tradition of a performance lecture; weaving different narratives, voices and histories together to explore a Michael Jackson tribute artist gig, and the real Michael Jackson’s visit to Exeter City Football Club.
Performers will need to have experience of devising as we will initially be working with archival material to shape the performance. No dancing experience is necessary, although you should be confident with movement as we will be exploring Jackson tribute acts.
I am looking to work with performers from a range of ages, ethnicities, and genders.
You will be asked to deliver a monologue originally delivered by Michael Jackson at Exeter City Football Club – you do not need to have this memorised. You will also be asked to lip sync and dance to Michael Jackson’s Bad.
The auditions will be filmed and may be used within a moving image artwork. You will be asked to sign a release form to authorise this. An honorarium of £30 will be paid to each performer auditioned on receipt of an invoice.
