Many Minds – Set Designer
Many Minds are looking for a set designer to help us bring our current project Yalla Walk to life.
We are putting on an ambitious multi-cultural, participatory outdoor performance to tackle segregation and stigma and celebrate equality and neurodiversity as part of the Bristol Refugee Festival on 21, 22, 23 & 24 June 2019 (matinee and evening performances). Get in’s/ set up’s are in the mornings of the performance days. We would also need you on the morning of 11th & 21st June for rehearsals.
‘Let’s go to the squares, streets and parks of Bristol that mean the most to us. Yalla Walk puts refugees, asylum seekers and people who have experienced mental ill-health in the driving seat, so let us lead you to the places where we feel our best and to the edges of where we feel safe. Exploring public and private spaces where we sometimes have no power or control, we have made up our own rules.
Expect to be moved as you see the city we live in through our eyes, as we mourn, play and laugh together. Come with us to walk the shared paths that connect us to one another.’
The performance will start in Queen’s Square and then move to different performance spaces. These could be a park bench, a parked car or up a tree. We are looking for someone who can work intuitively and collaboratively, someone who is excited about working outside of the normal theatre space and views challenges as opportunities. We require small props/ set which can be easily set up and and packed down at the end of each performance day and can be carried by a maximum of 4 people. We would like to work with someone who has good working knowledge of sound and light in performance and feels competent building this into their designs and setting it up.
If you are interested and would like to find out more, please send an expression of interest telling us about you, your work, and other relevant experience to
Deadline 18th May
