Salary: GBP Fee £3100
Application Deadline: July 16, 2018 5:00 pm
Company: Can't Sit Still
Can’t Sit Still creates new, devised performances combining physical theatre, circus and original music. We tell stories, start conversations, and try to change the world.
Our current show is Plink and Boo. Using acrobatics, live music and mountains of toys, Plink & Boo is an interactive circus theatre adventure to explore what happens when people don’t fit into boxes (even if it is the neatest place to put them).
Plink and Boo has been created and written by Can’t Sit Still in collaboration with children, parents and childcare professionals from Bristol and Swindon. Following rehearsals during summer 2018, Plink & Boo will tour from end of September 2018 to 14 UK venues.
We are seeking a freelance stage manager to be part of the small ensemble team, including a baby, their parents and a babysitter, who will tour the show. Our ideal person will have experience of small-mid scale theatre/circus touring. They will need a full UK drivers’ license and be able to drive a long wheel base van. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, who has enthusiasm, a can-do attitude, ability to think laterally, and would enjoy feeding into the creative process.
The show is low-tech, with simple lighting and no sound requirements (we have a live musician). Main tasks will be:
- Assisting with liaison with venues, creating risk assessments and technical documents
- Competent/safe tour driver
- Main point of contact for the venue, on arrival and throughout the get in/performance/get out
- Managing the load in/setting the stage, with assistance from performers
- Implementing risk mitigation measures, in line with the show risk assessment, in collaboration with the venue if necessary
- Managing the de-rig and load out
- Final checks and clear up at each venue
- Writing show reports
The fee will be: £3100
We are looking for someone with availability for shows on the following dates:
29, 30 September 2018,
6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 17, 25, 26, 27 October 2018,
1, 2, 3, 10 November 2018,
Driving time necessitates additional availability on:
28 September 2018
5, 12, 24, 28, 31 October 2018
4, 9 November 2018
The SM will be expected to join the ensemble for 8 days during rehearsals. Dates to join for rehearsal are flexible but will be required in the lead up to the first performance.
If not all dates are definitely available, there may be the possibility for some negotiation. If you fit the bill and are keen to apply please still do so.
Please note, the tour extends into Spring 2019 with a number of dates penciled. There is therefore the potential for the contract to be extended for the right person once bookings have firmed up.
Please send a short CV and letter of application to [email protected]
Closing date for applications is: 5pm on 16th July 2018
Interviews in Bristol, or via Skype, will be held on 20th / 23rd July 2018
