After a well received run of improvised Pantomimes at the BIT in 2017, Pick Your Own Panto is looking for two versatile, experienced improvisers to join the cast for the upcoming Winter season.
Pick Your Own Panto is 70 minute improvised pantomime with musical numbers, for kids and adults. The run consists of 4 evening and 4 matinee performances over the weekends of 21st-23rd and 28th-30th December. Cast and crew are paid on a profit share basis.
Bristol Improv Theatre – Main Theatre space
Saturday 22nd September, 2pm-5pm
The audition will be workshop based, involving mixed exercises and scenes, and will begin with a showcase from the existing cast.
Pick Your Own Pantomime has a cast of 5-6 plus a musician and technician.
Half the shows will be matinees aimed at children and families (and are the main focus of the production). There will also be Friday/Saturday night versions for adults audiences.
The show is paid on a profit-sharing scheme for cast and crew, with the proceeds from the 8 currently-booked dates.
We’re looking for experienced, versatile improvisers who have performed long-form narrative before.
The following improv skills would also be useful though none are required (everyone will be asked to sing even if you’ve not improvised songs before).
– Singing, esp. improvised musicals
– Kids shows
– Physical Theatre
There will be songs, dancing, plenty of games and lots of interaction.
In Panto there are a number of traditional roles (dame, lead, villain etc), and these primary ones are pre-assigned so that these principles can don outrageous costumes. The dame is the storyteller, introducing the show and acting as actor-director to keep the story on track and encourage audience interaction. This role is rotated among the cast who are happy to take it on.
We are looking for good performers regardless of gender as even the dame works well played as a woman so there are no restrictions by gender.
