CALL OUT FOR DEVISING PERFORMER
On January 25th 2020, we will be holding an audition workshop in Exeter (venue/time tbc) with a view to find performers to join us in devising a cabaret about the nurses of the NHS.
Hello! We are Gee and Charice – two emerging theatremakers based in Exeter who met whilst studying Drama at university. After graduating, we decided to work together based on our mutual love for smashing the daily with the anarchic and telling truthful stories about absurd things. We write, move, play and perform.
About the project
With our NHS on the verge of extinction, it seems vital to shine a light on the nurses who are the backbone of our healthcare system. We want to devise a punchy cabaret which grapples with the joys and challenges of nurses’ experiences, and their value within British society. We envision something anarchic, comical, dark, bright, grotesque, and together.
We are casting the net for one/two performers based in the South West to join our ensemble. We are looking for committed, open, playful, and daring collaborators. As a key player in the devising process, you would contribute your ideas and skills generously. We’ll be working with comedy, clown, movement, song and original writing, and if you have a strong musical ear – that’s great. A background/interest in physical theatre is desirable, but not necessary. We are particularly keen on hearing from LGBTQIA and BAME folk because they/we are radically under-represented.
To apply, please send a video (max. 2) of your previous work and a short letter of interest to Charice Bhardwaj at email@example.com , including any relevant experience and why you are interested in auditioning. If you can lindy hop, draw comics, or any other funky skill, please let us know!
This will be a paid project, but the fee is dependent on receiving our funding. If we are successful in our bid, the fee would be £483 per week, or £100 per single day outside of a full working week. If we are not successful, we will be working on a profit-share basis and split any additional funds we raise. Please do not apply if you are not happy to be working on a profit-share basis.
A detailed schedule will be formed based on the people we end up working with. As soon as we know, we will set R&D/rehearsal dates for short periods between Jan 2020-April 2020, with performance dates in Exeter soon after, although we do not know these yet.
We look forward to hearing from you!
