“When Sherlock Holmes unknowingly murders his own client, the game is on to track down the criminal mastermind who did it – Holmes himself! Do Watson’s troubling financial straits and inability to pay his rent have anything to do with the accident? Has this case been secretly planned by a narrative genius? Could Moriarty’s hunger for detective fiction fuel a global terror plot of unimaginable proportions? Satire maestros Tobacco Tea Theatre Company bring you this witty, absurd take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation. Expect extraordinary plot twists, metafiction, twisted logic and “almost unparalleled entertainment”! Sell-out show at Edinburgh and Brighton Fringes. ***** Theatre Bath. ‘Fine crime foolery.’ **** TheReviewsHub.com”
The Accidental Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a knowing parody of Sherlock Holmes, performed by three versatile actors multi-roling twelve of his most famous characters. Sherlock Holmes accidentally kills his own client with a golf club and then goes on the hunt for himself, “an Australian wielding an iron boomerang from afar”, but our unreliable narrator Watson turns out to be orchestrating events to create his greatest (and most profitable) detective story for the Strand Magazine to date, in order to pay his rent for months to come. However, it doesn’t take long for events to get out of Watson’s control, as the sinister Napoleon of Crime, Professor Moriarty, tries to create a Holmes story of his own…
Full of absurdity, wit, daring and unexpected twists and turns (including “a twist worthy of Holmes himself!”), the show is an hour of raucous and ingenious fun. We have performed the show for the past three years as a featured highlight of C Venue’s Edinburgh Fringe programme, playing to houses of 200+ throughout the festival. Last year we revamped the show with a Lecoq influence to 5 and 4-star reviews and toured it to several Fringe festivals around the country.
We are Tobacco Tea Theatre Company, a Bristol-based theatre company specialising in comedy and social satire. From light, absurd parodies such as The Accidental Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (***** Theatre Bath) to dark contemporary satire such as Vitomori (**** Inter:Mission Bristol) and our Tarantino-esque Highwayman action-comedy Stand and Deliver (**** Epigram), to our ‘Hot Fuzz meets Game of Thrones’ parody, Parish Fête-ality: A Game of Scones (**** Remotegoat), we’re bringing comedy that matters roaring into the heart of British theatre.
Character name: Doctor John Watson
A doctor who lives with Holmes, assists him in his cases and writes stories describing their adventures together. Faced with his half of the rent to pay and no new cases for a month to write about, he invents an elaborate case for Holmes to solve and dutifully tags along, trying to seem as guileless, straightforward and earnest as possible. A (usually) trustworthy companion with a past in the military. Watson acts as our narrator, and finds himself at the centre of the show’s farcical chain of events.
Auditions and rehearsals will be in the Bristol area.
