Performers wanted! Have you ever had a weird idea for a performance piece that’s part play, part stand up, part dance, part town hall crier? Well, we hug weird here at Utter Rot & Poppycock, and we’d like to hug it with you.
We want your 3-15 minute unusual acts for our next absurdist art house cabaret night on Thursday 12th March at the Bristol Improv Theatre. This is an experimental playground in a supportive environment, for you to try out something that has you excited. We’re specifically looking for eccentric ideas that you wouldn’t see at your average open mic — whether that’s a mix of music, sketch, improv, dance, puppetry, poetry, storytelling, character pieces or something we haven’t thought of. Did we mention that we love costumes?
Apply as soon as you have an idea, no matter how rough. If you’re unsure, or only have an inkling of what you want to do, please get in touch and we will help guide you to your strangest heart’s desire. If you’re thinking “I’d love to do this but I’m not good or funny or exciting enough”, then I urge you to apply. After the initial email application, I’ll be meeting up with you face to face to have a good old chat. Workshops will be held prior to the show for you to rehearse, get feedback and try out tech.
As we are currently a donations only event and have so many acts, it has proven more valuable to have the night professionally filmed rather than split the pot. This way, instead of getting a small number of pounds, you get a video of your performance for you to use when and how you like. You also get the opportunity to rehearse and workshop your idea, be part of a crazy fun show, and meet like-minded performers.
Interested in performing? Email us with your proposed idea, along with any video or web links you may have of previous work, by Thursday 13th February to [email protected]
Remember; failure is your friend.
