Workshop: Physical Storytelling: How do we do it?

Cost: £20

Organiser: Wiltshire Creative

May 24th – 1 day workshop, £20

What is physical theatre? How do we create physical narratives on stage? What is like to be part of a company that dedicates itself to a sustained embodied training?

In this workshop, participants have the opportunity to dive into the world of physical storytelling, encounter physical vocabularies and training techniques that will enhance their articulation, presence, fluidity and expression, and create dynamic physical scores that will form the groundwork for story, character and drama.

Working from dreams, tales and memories, participants will be led through a focused, playful and energetic encounter of body; learning how to use the body as intricately as a classical actor uses text. Participants will work both individually and in partners on physical scores, as well as learn the qualities and discipline behind ensemble theatre. This workshop is for artists of all kinds and people interested in theatre and the embodied arts.

Henry McGrath is an actor and theatre director. He was a principal performer at the award-winning and internationally acclaimed Polish company, Song of the Goat theatre. He is Artistic Director at Eden’s Cave Theatre, a laboratory theatreensemble based in the Forest of Dean. He has worked with Amit Lahav, director of Gecko Theatre, the BBC, Mechanimal and is Deputy Artistic Director at Animikii Theatre, an award winning physical theatre company based in Manchester. He teaches acting and the embodied arts at drama schools and institutions across the country.
