Transparent Theatre is looking for actors to star in their newly written play: The Hobbit Laws.
We are a theatre company from Cornwall with two sell-out shows under our belt. We have now relocated to Bristol and are putting on our first production here.
The Hobbit Laws tells the true story of when hundreds of actors in New Zealand went on strike in 2010 during the production of The Hobbit, putting the outcome of the entire film series at risk. On one side of the table are the actors fighting for their basic rights to earn a living. On the other side is Peter Jackson and his crew, fighting to keep their production running and keep Middle Earth in New Zealand.
Millie Walsman: Kiwi actor with Equity and determined to give actors in New Zealand, even if it means bringing down The Hobbit in the process.
Hamish Lynes: Australian born actor, working for NZ Equity and a massive Tolkien fan.
Peter Jackson: The director.
Charlie Dewberry: Jackson’s assistant, and an important figure in the production.
Edward Hamilton: Kiwi actor who plays one of the dwarves in The Hobbit.
The direction will be dipping into the abstract and exaggerated, and the casting will be very fluid. All roles could be played by any gender, age or ethnicity.
AUDITION DATES: 24th of April (10:00-13:00) and the 5th of May (14:00-17:00).
PERFORMANCE DATES: 25th and 27th of July.
You will be paid with a split of the show’s profits.
If you’re interested, please email with “Hobbit Auditions” in the subject line and we will send you audition materials. Remember to mention which audition date you’d prefer.
We would love to hear from you!
