Job Title:  Volunteers – to assist West Coast Ballet Theatre

ROLES AVAILABLE

Rehearsal Support

To help with the smooth running of ballet rehearsals – signing people in, handing out documentation, administration, taking notes for the Artistic Director, ensure there are no disturbances to rehearsals, looking after the ballet staff on duty, moral support and most importantly, making the tea! Will normally be on a Saturday.

Wardrobe and Costume Support

Simple support to the Wardrobe Team of Dance Artists including Non Performance Related tasks such as – machining, hand sewing, braiding, sequining, cutting and pinning etc. Performance Related work includes tasks such as – hair, make up, dressers, wigs, fixing headwear, assisting with quick-changes, mending costumes, some laundering of costumes.

Publicity Support

Provide support to and assist the Publicity Team of Dance Artists including such tasks as – distribution of printed matter or packages to venues, helping with marketing activities, putting up posters etc.

Technical Support

Assisting the Technical Team with various aspects of the production – transportation of scenery, props, costumes and other items; moving sets onto and off of the stage during a show and to/from the various venues; being a crew member (pulling tabs, running errands etc), supervision of the backstage areas, supervision of the Stage Door, taking care of flowers for the dancers, handing over messages, etc.

Event Support – Backstage

To provide support to enable smooth running of performances (shows, Gala’s, outreach, events) by carrying out tasks such as – supervision, signing in/out of dancers and staff to the backstage area, door-keeping, running errands, making tea!

Event Support – Theatre Ushers

People to support the staff of the theatre’s and venues we hire for performances who can act as Usher’s on our behalf. Training is given by the Theatre’s Front-of-House Manager and you would be responsible to them during the show, but helping us greatly in this valuable task.

Event Support – Foyer Attendants

To provide an interface between West Coast Ballet Theatre and the general public in the Front-of-House area with tasks such as – setting up tables for information, answering questions, selling Theatre Programs, meeting special guests etc.

The dancers of West Coast Ballet Theatre are the material (people) upon which ‘Dance Artists’ creates its work. The dancers are all paying members who gain essential vocational experience dancing and learning to be an artist. WCBT is an organisation for honing the art of performance in an environment reflective of the vocation of a ballet-dancer.

Dance Artists

“Creative Artists – Collaborating to bring to Life a Spark of Inspiration that longs to be Created”

A team of Creative Artists including student, emerging, experienced, and amateur enthusiasts in technical theatre, visual arts (photography and film), wardrobe and costuming, arts marketing and audience development; and digital/social media buffs – all collaborating to bring full-length and one-act traditional classical ballets as well as new and original ballet-theatre to the stage in live performances in Bristol and the local region, South Wales, and London.

Both ‘West Coast Ballet Theatre’ and ‘Dance Artists’ are cultural organisations not operated for profit and who employ no permanent or contracted paid staff. We do our work with financial loans, grants, funding, sponsorship and membership fees.
