St. Mary’s Players

SMP is an Amateur Musical Theatre Society based in Bristol and we are a member of NODA. We perform two shows a year at The Regrave, Clifton and Page Community Association.

St. Mary’s Players is a non-professional Musical Theatre Society based in Bristol in the South West region of England and is a member of the United Kingdom’s National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

We have a number of successes to our credit, both in gaining nominations and winning various awards in the South West region’s Rose Bowl Awards.

Not least among our achievements are the considerable donations to charity that we have given over the years from the proceeds of our shows, and the help we have given other organisations to raise money by taking part in charity performances at the Bristol Hippodrome, the Colston Hall and various other venues.

Our membership nowadays is drawn from all over the Bristol area. The club has always had a large age-range of members and it is particularly pleasing to see younger members gaining experience and developing their performing skills. Some of our members have chosen the Theatre as their profession and it is good to think that the club has helped them along the way.

For many years we have been fortunate in having members who have compiled, written and staged our Autumn productions. These shows have, on occasion, rescued the club from precarious financial positions and helped keep our membership together through the year. Over the years the club has established a reputation for being a friendly down-to-earth group of people who very much enjoy each other’s company and a hard-working Social Team organise a series of enjoyable events that keep our members together and active when we are not busy rehearsing.

From its purely parochial beginnings St Mary’s Players is now well and truly established among the leading non-professional Musical Theatre Societies in Bristol. Currently St. Mary’s Players present two productions a year – the main Annual Production at the Redgrave Theatre, Clifton each Spring and an Autumn Production at the Page Community Association Hall, Staple Hill, usually in September.
