www.danielinzani.co.uk

I have worked as a composer for theatre and have performed as a multi instrumentalist in theatre and circus. My main instrument is piano, I also play Celtic harp, accordion, guitars (and other similar stringed instruments), bass, percussion and sing.

As a musician I have played many styles of music and perform with several musical projects. The main group I compose for and perform with is a contemporary classical chamber quartet well suited to theatre named Spindle Ensemble. I also work with several groups from the Bloom collective such as Tezeta, Count Bobo, Leonie Evans, Dubi Dolczek, Cloudshoes and Alabaster dePlume.

I have recently performed and worked with Mayfest, Theatre Orchard, Sharp Teeth, MAYK, Contact Gonzo, Sanctum, No Fit State Circus, Bath Film Festival, and The Wardrobe Theatre.

Sanctum – Theastre Gates

Portfolio image:
Sanctum was a public artwork project created by Theaster Gates for the city of Bristol. A remarkable structure arose from within the bombed-out remains of Temple Church in Bristol. For 24 days, 24 hours a day, the site was transformed into an intimate place of listening, in which to hear the city like never before. I performed in the space several times as a solo artist and with various musical projects I am involved with. I was also commissioned by the organisers to form a ‘super group’ of Bristol musicians and a set of music to close the project.

Spindle Ensemble

Portfolio image:
Spindle Ensemble are an experimental instrumental quartet from Bristol’s music collective Bloom. They perform original compositions by Daniel Inzani that hover cinematically somewhere between jazz, folk and classical idioms, taking inspiration from artists such as Moondog, Eric Satie and Mulatu Astatke. Their debut album, Bea, was released as a luxury gatefold vinyl edition via new label Adderwell Music in Nov 2017 (full release 26th Jan 2018). Bea was recorded in a converted village chapel studio named ‘Grand Chapel Studios‘ in Bedfordshire. It was mixed and engineered by Michael Pearce who created a stereo image of the room and Spindle performed as an ensemble, in order to capture their sound raw and live in an acoustic environment that bought the best out of their instruments’ natural resonance. Spindle Ensemble recorded their debut album in April 2017 and named it Bea after Jo’s recently born daughter to mark the birth of the band. The striking cover art for Bea was created by well known Australian artist and designer Anna Higgie. Spindle Ensemble features composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Inzani (piano, Celtic harp/accordion), Caelia Lunniss (violin), Harriet Riley (marimba/vibraphone) and Jo Silverston (cello). “This is cinematic music of a high calibre, executed with eloquent musicianship. Elements of classical composition, jazz harmony and folk sensibilities combine with worldly influences from Ethiopia and the Far East.” ★ ★ ★ ★ Songlines Other groups I perform and record with can be found on my website along with a discography. http://danielinzani.co.uk

Bianco – No Fit State Circus at Perth International Arts Festival, Australia

Portfolio image:
Bianco (2012-2017) was an immersive promenade show, created by the team behind ImMortal and tabù, under the direction of Firenza Guidi. Originally commissioned as a site-specific performance for the Eden Project in 2012, it became NoFit State’s longest-running and most successful large-scale production, giving the company premieres in Australia, China and the US and winning awards, prizes and critical acclaim along the way. In NoFit State signature style, Bianco brought together designers, musicians, composers, riggers, engineers makers, costume, lights and set designers to create a sensory and sensual environment, inhabited by some of the world’s best circus artists. I performed in Bianco at the Perth International Arts Festival as a multi instrumentalist, replacing the previous musical director who played a similar set of instruments: piano, accordion, percussion, electric and acoustic guitar, ukulele and vocals. ‘NoFit State… exudes an enticingly musky scent of vagabond glamour’ New York Times http://www.nofitstate.org/bianco

A group of performance artists who first won recognition with their YouTube videos, which led to festival and exhibition invitations both in Japan and overseas, Contact Gonzo have developed a unique, improvisation-heavy show that can look like anything from street fighting to contemporary dance. They tour the world bringing there unique combination of martial arts, physical movement, improvisation and artistic values to different locations, collaborating with local artists and the environment. I performed as both a musician and as part of the collective physical theatre performance. Some music was composed and some improvised for the performance on Celtic harp, piano and sound scape with effects pedals. The production was part of Mayfest and co- produced by Theatre Orchard and MAYK.
