David Hewson

Composer & Lyricist, Musical Director and Actor-Musician.

I am a Composer & Lyricist,  Musical Director and Actor-musician. I work predominately in actor-musician theatre.

I moved to Bristol in 2017 to concentrate on writing new musical theatre works. Recent writing credits include “THE SANDMAN”, a new family musical commission in 2019 for Mountivew Academy for their 3rd year actor-musician students, “THE ACCIDENTAL TIME TRAVLLER”,  a 2019 commission for British Youth Music Theatre and “THE SCARLET LETTER”, a new musical adaptation of the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I am also co-director of actor-musician theatre company DumbWise, comprising of graduates from Rose Bruford college.  We write and adapt new actor-musician work for the stage. Please head to www.dumbwise.co.uk to find out more.

I am particularly passionate about further developing the field of actor-musicianship in the UK and am always keen to hear from others who share this passion.

I also have a wide range of teaching experience. Recent Youth theatre work includes Tobacco Factory theatre, Stafford Gatehouse, Garage Norwich and the Spirit Young Performers company in London. I currently teach at the Big Act in Bristol and on the Actor-Musicianship degree course at Mountview Academy.
