Lou is an experienced Theatre Designer, Prop-Maker and Workshop Facilitator….

Lou originally trained in Theatre Design at Trent University, Nottingham, and has since designed and created sets, props and costumes for over 40 productions for Theatre Companies all around the country. She particularly enjoys the collaborative process of working with actors/writers/directors to create visual stimulus towards story-making/devising and also with production managers towards the realisation of her set-designs.

When her children were small, she began utilising her skills to run Workshops and Art Clubs where she lived in Hackney, London. She set up many projects and ran workshops, both independantly and for local Education Depts. and later for organisations such as Creative Partnerships, English Touring Opera, E.N.O. and the V&A.

Projects/workshops have incorporated set & costume design, prop/mask/puppet making, painting, sculpture, willow structures, felt making, environmental regeneration, and some art-therapy based explorations. Often projects have developed over a period of time and resulted in some kind of spectacular event!

She moved to Bristol in 2007. Here she has designed and made sets, props, puppets, installations and decor for the Old Vic Youth Theatre, the Wonder Club, Invisible Circus, Glastonbury Festival (Shangri-La), the Harbour Festival, Illuminate Festival, St Werburghs Art Trail, and Trinity.

With the Creative Learning Agency she’s worked as a guest-artist on projects with students from Cotham, Claremont Special School, the Watershed Children’s Film Club and the Artsmark Award Ceremony.

She has recently set up an enterprise, ‘Lou’s Decore’:  https://www.facebook.com/Lousdecor

She has also just become a workshop facilitator with the ‘Art Troupe’: http://www.thearttroupe.com/lou-gray/
