Say hello to Theatre Bristol’s new CEO, Emily Williams

Theatre Bristol is excited to announce the appointment of Emily Williams as Interim CEO.

Emily has worked a Producer and Arts Manager across a wide variety of contexts and organisations for last decade. She has built a reputation around strategic and organisational development, fundraising, artist support, producer development and the producing of internationally renowned work often in non-traditional theatre spaces.

For the last 3 years she has worked as an Independent Producer collaborating with artists and companies including: Raucous, Beyond Face, Honeyscribe, Ad Infinitum, Ira Brand, Katherine Hall, Paraorchestra and Libraries Unlimited. She is the former Executive Director of Situations (2016), and Executive Producer of Kaleider (2012-2016). She was also the co-founder of Wide Awake Devon and former Creative Producer at Barbican Theatre, Plymouth.

Emily said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed Interim CEO of Theatre Bristol. It is hard to imagine a more challenging time for the arts and those of us that work in this industry, which means that there has never been more of a reason for Theatre Bristol to exist to support, advocate, champion and listen to our artists and independent makers across the city.

I cannot wait to begin working with the team to build on the brilliant work already in place and to develop new, meaningful opportunities and invitations to artists and organisations as we all navigate this period of unknown.”

Chair Chinonyerem Odimba said “I am delighted to be welcoming Emily to the Theatre Bristol team. Her skills, expertise and values will make her an inspiring leader for the organisation. It has been a pleasure to work with outgoing CEO Mel Scaffold, developing an ambitious vision to make both the organisation and the sector more representative and artist-led. I’m now looking forward to working with Emily as we build on this foundation, supporting Theatre Bristol to deliver its ground-breaking artist and sector development.”

Theatre Bristol is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and Bristol City Council Cultural Delivery Partner.

Emily will take up the new role at the start of August, following a handover with Mel Scaffold in July.
