Spike Island is a contemporary visual arts centre that offers studios and project space alongside its exhibition programme. Spike hires out the main central space in the building when it is not being used for exhibitions (the programme is prioritised and so potential hirers will need to be flexible). The main gallery space is light and airy and dance events have been held here. Weekly hire may be possible. There is an extra space the “Commissioning bay” that has been hired out for set construction and could be used in this way again. Spike Island is working on a second stage of capital development and building work is due to start early 2006. This space has been used for activities including: exhibitions and film shoots.
