14th century perpendicular church built on the mediaeval city wall with a tower and spire over the north gate. The church is on two levels with a crypt beneath entered from a separate door in Nelson Street.

The single entrance (1.40m wide) to the nave and chancel is in the SW corner up 10 steep and worn steps. The crypt is entered by a small door 85cms wide down 3 steep steps from the pavement outside.

The floor area (chancel and nave) is 187 sq metres, and a central aisle (2.15m wide) separates the rows of fixed low box pews. Large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood in, and new lighting in the nave and chancel has recently been completed. The crypt total area is 137 sq metres. The floor is uneven flagstone and grave stones . Ambient light is poor but there is adequate fixed and portable lighting, and 4 double 13 amp sockets.
