On the 22nd November 2016, a press release announced that Hamillton House had officially been notified by the owners Connolly & Callaghan (C&C) of their intent to sell the building. Coexist, a social enterprise who runs the building are exploring the many possibilies that this brings. Hamilton House is listed — and therefore protected — as an ‘Asset of Community Value’, so Coexist can make a preferential formal bid. Unfortunately their bid in July 2016 of £3.5 million was not accepted.
In December, Hamillton House hosted their AGM which was supported by over 100 people made up of artists, designers, web developers, musicians and small businesses who have their base here, as well as members of Dmac, CoResist, PRSC and others based in Stokes Croft. Up until May 2017, Coexist is able to present an offer for the sale of the building but after, C&C will be able sell Hamilton House on the open market.
The next action group meeting to discuss the sale of the building will be on 17th Jan at 4.30pm.
